About this website

About Oxcentric, Oxfordshire's website for young people

The Oxcentric website was created in consultation with hundreds of local young people. Participation and Play (part of Oxfordshire County Council) managed the consultation. One of the main aims of the project was making more information available to different ages.

For different age groups

One of the key things young people told us is that they wanted content to be aimed at their age group. Because of this we created two websites:

  • Oxcentric, for older young people, and
  • Boombox, for younger young people

Combining different websites

One of the other things young people told us is that they wanted to be able to find everything in one place. So Oxcentric combines tools and content from several different websites:

  • Spired.com
  • Activities Oxfordshire
  • Connexions Oxfordshire
  • Big Voice Oxfordshire

There is also content from the main Oxfordshire County Council website.

How to get involved

Though lots of young people have already been involved in the development of Oxcentric, this website is an ongoing project and we are seeking more young people to get involved. If you are interested in any of the following vacancies, please get in touch with Jeremy Day .

  • Web volunteer - update news, pages, more
  • Steering group member - have your say about the future of the website
  • Volunteer Reader/Tester - Check through pages, try out new tools and make suggestions

This looks like an excellent website. Well done to everyone who has helped put it together!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Natalie Nicholson and I am a youth worker covering the north Oxford area and I am based at Wolvercote young people's club. The club is open 4 nights per week and is aimed at young people between the ages of 7 and 19 years. It was previously run by Oxfordshire County Council who shut it down as a result of their youth work funding cuts. The club has been reopened with strong community support and is now managed by the Wolvercote young peoples charitable trust. We are having an open day on February 18th 2012 to relaunch the club. From this open day young people can expect lots of fun activities to come and take part in including; a graffiti workshop street dance A portrait artist workshop cookery IT HD Filming DJing Football Basketball Pool Table Tennis Nail art All of these activities are completely free! I have attached an open day poster in the hope that you might consider coming along with some of young people so that we can start building links with other youth clubs, centres and organizations across Oxfordshire. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this email. Kind regards Natalie -- Nat 01865 55 93 74 nat@wolvercoteypc.org.uk

Hi Natalie, if you could send me the poster directly that would be useful and I will add all the info to the site Thanks, Karin. karin.cook@oxfordhire.gov.uk
