The Chill Out Fund

Chill Out 2012-2013 application forms are available - put your bid in now!

2012 - 2013 Chill Out Fund

You can start applying for funding for projects running in the next year - from April 2012 until March 2013.

Oxfordshire County Council has set up a fund to support work with children and young people across the county, with the aim of ensuring that all children and young people can access positive activities in their leisure-time by 2020.

Chilling out really is good for you!

It’s well-known that how you spend your leisure-time in your youth can have an important influence and impact on your current and future quality of life. If you get involved in positive activities, you’ll get loads of benefits:

  • your confidence will increase
  • you will have a more positive attitude
  • you’ll be motivated to do well
  • you’ll develop your social, life and interpersonal skills.

All of this is vital as it sets you on a positive path in life and helps you avoid taking risks such as experimenting with drugs or alcohol or being involved in anti-social behaviour and crime.

For young people who are more vulnerable than most – such as those with physical or learning disabilities – getting out and having fun can reduce social isolation and is a great way of meeting new friends and finding new interests. If you’re a young carer, the opportunity to have some time to yourself each week gives you an important break, where you can do something just for yourself.

I am chair person of the Abingdon Vale Swimming Club. Due to an increase in our coaching talent over the past few years, due to hiring a coach and also parents coming forward to gain coaching qualifications, we are now in a position to grow our club. However, in order to do this, we must have more pool time than what we currently have. If we took more members, lanes would be too crowded and it would be unsafe as well as not productive for the swimmers. Pool time is hard to come by as most local pools are booked with various schools, adult swim time, public swimming, etc. We have found out that we can have an additional 1.5 hours on a Tuesday evening at Radley pool from September. This would enable us to expand and we would propose to offer this time to Academy swimmers (a link between swimming lessons and full competitive swimming). However, there is always a lag between additional pool time and gaining new members. The cost of the pooltime is approximately £45 per hour and we would use this for about 40-45 weeks per year. Is this something that the Chill-out fund could help with? We hope that once new members come into the club, the extra pool time would be self-sustaining due to member fees. Thank you for your help.

Have you read through the guidence notes - they are very helpful in determining what is required - involvemnet of young people in the bid, matched funding and so on. The link to the guidence notes is on the web page above
