Education, employment or training

When you have finished your GCSEs, three options are available: education, employment or training

Once you have completed your compulsory education you can think about going on to further education, including university, or to undertake some sort of training, or to start working. This will be covered in your needs assessment and your pathway plan. The government wants to see young people who leave care able to do much better in their education and training than in the past.

Your social worker or personal advisor should make sure you are offered the right advice either from the Connexions Service, Raise Service (Oxfordshire’s Leaving Care Education, Employment and Training Support Team), Job Centre or other service attached to the school or college you are interested in attending.

It is important that you know what options are open to you, and that you receive the encouragement and support you need to achieve the best you can.

You may also be helped with certain education and training costs, e.g. books, travel and equipment costs.
